William S. Burnham ’52

William S. Burnham ’52 died March 27, 2014, in Sarasota, Fla., during open heart surgery. He was born in Portland on March 21, 1930, son of the late Harold N. Burnham of the Bowdoin Class of 1911, and he graduated from Deering High School. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He worked for DuPont in Illinois before serving two years in the Army Research Lab at Fort Knox, Ky. After that, he returned briefly to DuPont in West Virginia before moving to Utah to work for Hercules, Inc. He transferred to Indiana in 1976 and then back to Utah in 1982, where he stayed until retiring from the Hercules aerospace program in 1989. He is survived by Carolyn Stigman Burnham, his wife of 59 years; sons Robert and William Jr.; daughter Barbara; and one granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold N. Burnham ’48.
